Peter Obi, the flag bearer for the Labour Party, emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision had left a vast majority of Nigerians feeling disillusioned and disheartened. He contended that, in this particular case, the pursuit of political expediency had seemingly taken precedence over the principles of justice. This shift in focus had the adverse effect of undermining the faith and expectations of many citizens who were hoping for a fair and equitable legal resolution.
Furthermore, as a committed democrat, Peter Obi disclosed that he, alongside his running mate and vice presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, had diligently explored and exhausted all available legal avenues to challenge the outcomes of the 2023 general elections. Their intention was to ensure that the democratic process was upheld and that every legitimate concern regarding the elections had been addressed through established legal channels.
Notably, Peter Obi conveyed the LP’s unwavering commitment to the democratic principles that underpin the Nigerian political landscape. Despite the challenges faced, the LP was resolved to champion the cause of a new Nigeria, carrying this message to the grassroots.
